FREE ONLINE Create A Comic
Holy speech bubbles, Batman! Is that a video for aspiring comic strip creators I see? It is, and I’ll show you the skills you need to help you develop characters, craft a spellbinding story, pencil in your panels, add captions and—BAM!—sound effects, then ink and color your very own one-page comic strip.

Objective: Individual comic creation and tools to recreate one in the future.

WINTER is COMING, sign up for classes now!

From Tennessee Williams:
——
I wrote to Picasso once: I did not receive a reply. I saw Picasso at a party or an opening or something crowded and awful in New York. I spoke to him. I repeated what I had written in my letter: How do we do it? What do we do when the images and the words do not come forth? How do we survive? How do we remain artists?

He looked at me with those glorious eyes, snapped back that shiny, bald head and told me that we are not artists; we do not concern ourselves with “art.” We are workmen, day laborers—who happen to work with paints and clay and actors, and curtains part on occasion to display what we do. Tell the truth, he said. As you know it. Art may happen; it may not. We are not owed its presence.

His point was made.

Don’t be the judge be the character!

The final days of summer are upon us, and [gasp!] with some early signs of leaves changing from green to new brilliant hues, it’s pretty clear that fall is quickly approaching. Before your schedules get filled with after-school sports or even some pumpkin and apple picking, Give it a go! has a host of fall classes beginning this month that are sure to pique every creative’s interest all season long.

From my Create a Comic class for the littlest artists to adult acting for every grown up who’s ever been entranced by a magical screen or stage performance, there’s something for everyone this autumn.

There’s just one, teeny tiny thing left to do: decide which class YOU want to sign up for!

You BROUGHT it you PAINT it! @ Westport Continuing Education

My Adult Art Class has been so eye opening for me as artist and teacher. Each week my students challenge themselves and then they accomplish their goals. I have been encouraging them to be fearless and in return they deliver.

I have requested they keep journals to chart their progress. That alone is a task. It’s hard to document outside of class. I have asked them to write down thoughts and pull clippings that inspire them day to day. I said even the not wanting to do it or being mad at yourself is apart of “being an artist.” Just having the journal in your life is exciting. It is calling to you to work at something else besides your everyday and forcing them to think outside the box. They also work very hard in class. Take a look!
